1.Call for chapters for a new anthology ‘Islamophobia in Muslim Societies’

2. The Center for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies (CAMES) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) is pleased to announce that it will be offering its intensive summer Arabic programs in Beirut between June 21 and August 9, 2017. CAMES offers two separate programs.

3. The Arab Studies Institute (ASI) and AUB’s Center for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies (CAMES)are pleased to announce the second Doctoral Dissertation Summer Institute on Lebanon, to be held 12-23 June 2017. The program aims to provide a framework for facilitating and advancing rigorous inter-disciplinary doctoral dissertation research on Lebanon. A cohort of PhD students, representing an array of disciplines, research agendas, and institutional affiliations, will be chosen from an open pool of applicants through a competitive selection process. By bringing together PhD students of various disciplinary training and topical foci, this program creates a space to interrogate, modify, and develop critical approaches to the study of Lebanon. Central to this process is increasing students’ familiarity with the contours of knowledge production as well as field research in Lebanon.

4. Unlocking the Medinan Qur’an
19–21 March 2017
International workshop held at Pembroke College, Oxford

Attendance of the workshop is free, but prior registration is required: medinanquran@orinst.ox.ac.uk. All papers will be c. 25–30 minutes in length, followed by 15 minutes of discussion. The workshop is convened by Nicolai Sinai.
5. CFP – Mediterranean diasporas in the early modern Italy (15th-19th century)
We welcome contributions that investigate the role played by diasporas in state-promoted internal colonizations, in the building of institutional, social and geographical spaces and, finally, in the making of the concepts of “nation”, “foreigner” and “tolerance.” Papers discussing methodological aspects and/or carried out through digital humanities will be also appreciated.

6. The Roshan Graduate Interdisciplinary Program in Persian and Iranian Studies is a newly established program at the University of Arizona. The Persian program will be admitting a very limited number of graduate students at the MA and PH.D level for the 2017-2018 academic year. 7. University of Calgary
The Faculty of Arts, School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures (SLLLC) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Instructor in the area of Arabic Language and Muslim Cultures, effective July 1, 2017.
We are seeking a candidate who is focused on teaching and teaching innovation. The successful candidate will have a PhD or MA in Arabic Language, Linguistics or Literature, with expertise in language pedagogy and native or near native fluency in Arabic. The ideal candidate will also show evidence of excellent achievement in teaching. An ability to teach other languages of the Muslim World would be considered an asset.
The expectations of the position are to teach seven (7) courses per academic year, contribute to curriculum development, build student engagement in the new program, commit to School and University service, and engage with the local community.
The School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures is a newly formed unit whose faculty research and teach Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish languages and related cultures as well as Linguistics. The latest addition has been the introduction of the program in Arabic Language and Muslim Cultures (ALMC). The School considers this an area that will grow in the coming years, and is looking for an energetic individual who can contribute to the evolution of ALMC.
