1.Chevening Fellowship at the British Library: Exploring and enhancing the British Library’s Turkic-language collections
Application window now open – deadline: November 7th
The British Library is delighted to partner with Chevening, the UK Government’s international awards scheme, to host year-long professional development projects for emerging global leaders. Chevening Fellowships offer dynamic training, professional development and other opportunities for individuals to spend time in the UK, researching subject matter that is relevant to their professional interests as well as to the UK’s international strategic priorities. At the British Library, each Chevening fellowship takes the form of a unique project-based placement that supports British Library staff to capitalise on the breadth and depth of our collections and expertise, enable new types of research, inform strategy and foster international collaboration. Upon completion of their projects, British Library Chevening fellows join the highly regarded global network of Chevening alumni.
This 12-month project will start at the British Library in London in September 2018.
Applications are welcome from candidates from the following countries: Azerbaijan; China; Iran; Kazakhstan; Kyrgyzstan; Moldova; Turkey; Turkmenistan; Uzbekistan.

2. BRAIS-De Gruyter Prize in Islamic Studies
The British Association for Islamic Studies (BRAIS) and De Gruyter are delighted to announce the third round BRAIS – De Gruyter Prize in the Study of Islam and the Muslim World. This international prize will be awarded annually to the best doctoral thesis or unpublished first monograph based on a doctoral thesis. English-language submissions on any aspect of the academic study of Islam and the Muslim world, past and present, including Muslim-minority societies are accepted. Applicants can be based in any country, and manuscripts will be assessed on the basis of scholarly quality and originality.
The award includes publication of the winning manuscript and a prize of £1,000, and it will be officially presented at the Annual Conference of BRAIS. The selection process will be undertaken by a seven-member prize committee comprising established academics from across the field.
Entries will not be accepted after the 1st October, 5pm (GMT).

3. CFP – Metropolitan Museum Journal
The Editorial Board of the peer-reviewed Metropolitan Museum Journal invites submissions of original research on works of art in the Museum’s collection. Starting with Volume 52 (2017), there will be two sections: Articles and Research Notes. Articles contribute extensive and thoroughly argued scholarship. Research Notes typically present a concise, neatly bounded aspect of ongoing investigation, such as the presentation of a new acquisition or attribution, or a specific, resonant finding from technical analysis. All texts must take works of art in the collection as the point of departure.
Articles and Research Notes in the Journal appear both in print and online, and are immediately accessible via MetPublications, JStor, and the website of the University of Chicago Press.
The deadline for submissions for Volume 53 (2018) is October 15, 2017.

6. Tenure-Track Professor of Arabic (Assistant or Associate Professor), San Diego State University, CA
The candidate is expected to have superior language proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic and native or near-native proficiency in at least one Arabic dialect. A Ph.D. in Linguistics, Arabic Studies, Middle Eastern Studies or a related field should be in-hand at the start of the appointment.

7. Assistant Professor for Critical Muslim Studies, University of California, San Diego
The applicants should be working in the area of Critical Muslim Studies and its intersections with race, gender, sexuality, decoloniality, Islamophobia and/or critical theory. We seek a colleague whose work theorizes the racialization of Muslims in the context of law, history, politics, science and/or culture. Scholars with multi-lingual facility are especially encouraged to apply.

8. Assistant/Early Associate Professor of Arabic Culture, Duke University, Durham, NC
The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding scholarship on the cultures of the Arab Middle East and North Africa, contextualize these within current theoretical frameworks, and have a proven record of teaching excellence. Native command of Arabic and English required. Competence in a second Middle Eastern language (Persian, Turkish, Hebrew, etc.) is welcomed but not required.

9. Assistant Professor of History of the Modern Middle East/Arab World, University of California, Berkely
The search is open to scholars of all regions and thematic interests in Modern Middle East history, with an emphasis on the history of the Arabic-speaking world. Qualifications: Completion of all Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree requirements except the dissertation at the time of application.

12. Webinar (Winter Term 2017/2018): Persian Historical Travelogues, 11th to 19th c., University of Heidelberg
Iranians and other Persian speakers have traveled the world ever since, in all possible directions, and some of them recorded their experience. The aim of the webinar will be to critically assess Persian travelogues as historical primary sources. Good knowledge of Persian is required. The webinar is held in English.
