1.ONLINE Conference on New Report: “Conflict Trends in the Arab World, 1946-2019”, Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS) and Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), 25 August 2021, 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm AST

3. Conference: “Narrating Exile in and between Europe and the Ottoman Empire/Modern Turkey”, University of Amsterdam, 11-12 November 2021
The conference will present original contributions that unsettle traditional narratives on exilic experiences: how to narrate refugee flows, which stories do we tell, which voices remain unheard? Our focus is on exile between Europe and (in) the (post)Ottoman lands. Historians, art historians, political scientists, ethnomusi-cologists, sociologists, anthropologists, archaeologists, and literary scholars will participate.
4. International Workshop: “The Relationship between State and Religion in the Arab and Islam-icate Contexts. Civil State, Secular State, Religious/Islamic State”, University of Leipzig, 9-10 December 2021
The workshop aims at discussing the actual and/or potential forms of the relationship between state or politics and religion in Arab and Islamicate contexts. It will bring together case studies and theoretical reflections and discussions on the concepts of ‘civil state’, ‘secular state’ and ‘religious/Islamic state’ in different disciplines and academic and political contexts.

7. International Conference on “Race and Islam: Global Histories, Contemporary Legacies”, George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, 23-25 March 2022
The conference aims to explore the ways Islam has encountered, engaged with, and reflected particular understandings and experiences of race. How being or becoming a Muslim has been defined and constructed vis-à-vis particular racial discourses and praxes.

9. The University of Tübingen invites applications for two Assistant Professors in the social sciences with a focus on ‘Global Encounters’ to commence on or after April 1, 2022. The contract is initially for four years, is extended by another two years following a positive interim evaluation. After these six years, there is a final evaluation, and based on its recommendation, the University can offer a permanent position.

10. Tenure-Track Position on “History of the Jews in Muslim Countries from the 19th Century to the Present”, Hebrew University of Jerusalem
The position is open to all candidates who have attained a Ph.D. degree. The primary language of instruction is Hebrew. Candidates whose Hebrew proficiency is such that they would not be comfortable teaching in Hebrew will be encouraged to sufficiently master the language during the initial years following their appoint-ment.

18. Articles on “When Options are Limited: Youth in the Middle East and North Africa in the Mist of Displacement, Unemployment and COVID19” for Special Issue of the “Journal for Refugee Studies”, Guest Editor Oroub El-Abed
The issue is concerned with the experiences of refugee youth, their trajectories, their narratives and their navigations encountering the limited options in their livelihoods.
