1.Academy Colloquium “Whither Islamicate Digital Humanities? Analytics, Tools, Corpora”

Hosted by the “Bridging the Gap” project, Utrecht University (NLD), and the Digital Islamic Humanities Project, Brown University (RI, USA)

“Whither Islamicate Digital Humanities? Analytics, Tools, Corpora” is a three-day international conference dedicated to the budding field of Islamicate Digital Humanities (IDH). In recent years, the number of projects, initiatives and research programs in this field has greatly increased. Recognition of these efforts has already resulted in the formulation of guidelines for the evaluation of digital scholarship by the Middle East Studies Association, as well as a recent proposal for a set of principles to guide scholarly corpus building (IJMES 50, “Roundtable”). These developments signal a field gradually coming of age. Yet, most scholars would also agree that much work remains to be done before a plug-and-play, one-click survey of the vast Islamicate textual heritage becomes even remotely realistic. This conference seeks to take stock and showcase efforts currently underway in global IDH text-mining and identify ways of promoting collaboration and synergy. 3. Call for Papers

The journal of ‘Sociology of Social Institutions‘

We are pleased to invite interested scholars to submit papers for possible publication in the journal of Sociology of Social Institutions (SSI). The journal of SSI is essentially in Persian language (Farsi) published by The University of Mazandaran, Iran. We plan to allocate one special issue of the SSI in English language. This will be a primary attempt for possibly further developments in future. The submissions to this special issue should focus principally on the context of Iran, while comparative studies between Iran and other countries are also acceptable. This special issue covers a wide range of topics from a sociological perspective. The topics, for instance, can include (but, not limited to) issues such as social institutions, social capital, family, social deviances, gender, population, migration, youth, etc. Again, the submissions need to have a central focus on Iran from a sociological perspective.

At this stage, we accept abstracts with maximum 500 words. The abstract should clearly indicate the aim, methodology, data, and key results. Also, a short bio of the authors with max 500 words including university affiliation and contact details need to be added into abstracts.

7. Submissions for “Islam in World Literary Imaginations: A Multi-Volume”

Edited by Sarah R. bin Tyeer, Claire Gallien and Mohammad Salama. The volume is designed to incorporate a variety of themes, influences, ramifications, impressions, and representations of Islam in world literatures in classical, medieval, modern, and contemporary contexts.

8. Graduate Student Article Prize Announced by Women Historians of the Middle East (WHOME)

This annual prize is awarded for the best article about Middle Eastern history written by a female-identifying graduate student (Masters or PhD). The award aims to bring attention to the innovative scholarship women are producing in the field. The article (not to exceed 8,000 words) can be published, under review, submitted, or in the final stages of preparation for submission to a journal.

9. Prize of the Council for British Research in the Levant (CBRL) for Best Article to be Published in “Contemporary Levante”
